Craft: Three Months Old

Time is flying faster than ever.  I can't believe it's already time for another update!  Craft is growing so fast, and I was telling Stephanie today that it makes me both happy and sad.  I'm happy because over the past month I have finally gotten to the point where I don't feel overwhelmed 24/7, but it also makes me sad because babies grow too quickly and C is likely my last.  Lots has happened this month, and I have lots of cute photos (seriously probably 25) of C rocking his 3-month sticker, so I'll get right to the stats!

Weight/Length:  I really have no idea on either.  I am guessing 18 lbs for weight, but it's just a guess.  We'll get an official number at his 4-month doctor appointment in June because, let's be honest, I can say I'll weigh him tomorrow but we all know I won't.

Sleep:  Knocking on wood here, but since we saw the doctor at 2 months and she advised us to do some really mild sleep training to start teaching Craft to put himself to sleep, Craft has been sleeping like a champ at night (She told us to put him down awake and let him fuss for no longer than 30 minutes.  I couldn't stomach letting him cry for 30 minutes straight so we did a modified version of the Ferber method.  One of us went in, replaced his paci and rubbed his belly after 3, 5 and 7 minute intervals and he got the hang of it after two days.  He has had occasional days where he needed a little help after that first week, but I think he's only gotten past that 7-minute mark once or twice - thank the Lord he made it pretty easy on us.).  He rang in his 12-week birthday by dropping his 6am feeding for about a week and a half, which means he was going down between 8-9pm and sleeping until some time between 7-8 am every morning.  The past three nights, though, C has decided to add that feeding back in, but he's been going down around 8pm and sleeping until 6am, eating really quickly and then going back to sleep until sometime between 8-9am so I have no complaints.  I know, I am a bia and have gotten lucky twice.  Naps are still all over the place, which I gather is normal for this age.  C typically is not awake for longer than 2 hours at a time (read: I put him down for a nap at the two-hour mark no matter what if he's still awake).  Some days, he'll sleep 45 minutes or an hour every two hours all day long, and other days he'll do some 45m-1h naps and then give me a big 2-3 (sometimes 4, depending on the day) nap.  I have been tracking his sleep to look for patterns and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when that happens.  The days when he sleeps in shorter increments all day long are a little more challenging when I'm trying to do things around the house, especially because sometimes I know he's still tired after 45 minutes but he refuses to go back to sleep.  I've read that most babies don't start to consolidate naps into longer chunks where you can start to get them on a schedule until around 6 months, but some babies do it earlier.  Here's hoping!

Feeding:  As evidenced by all photos ever taken, Craft is still a great eater and very efficient at nursing.  He no longer eats overnight, and during the day he eats every 3-4 hours.  It is mostly closer to 4 hours, but sometimes he's hungry prior to that.  Also, sometimes I will feed him prior to 4 hours if it's close and he's about to go down for a nap in an effort to get him to sleep longer.  Same goes for longer-than-4-hour-periods - if C is napping when it's time to eat, I don't wake him up to feed him.  Craft is still spitting up some but it doesn't seem to be nearly as frequent, and he is finally burping a little better for me.  Hopefully we're over that hump because Momma hates the spit up.

Firsts This Month:  First Easter/visit with the Easter bunny.  First baby shower (for my cousin Christie), which he attended over the weekend.  First giggles!  No belly laughs yet, but I have gotten quite a few giggles (so have Daddy and Lilly - he saves the good ones for his big sister!).  First time sitting up in the Bumbo.  AND, just today we learned a new trick!!!  I guess it should technically go in next month's update since today is the 6th, but I was so happy to be here for it (and I caught the very first one on video!): Craft rolled over for the first time today!!!

I am such a proud Mama, and I can't believe my big boy rolled over.  I thought it was just a fluke, but he did it 5 or 6 times - Carney witnessed!  Such a big boy.  He only rolled in that one setting - when he was on the couch before his nap - he didn't roll any more tonight, but I hope he shows off for Daddy soon.  Finally, first time voting tonight!

Developments:  The first thing that comes to mind in this category is that Craft is just very awake.  He still sleeps quite a bit, but he is definitely awake a lot more than before - and very observant.  He is a morning baby, and is happiest after he wakes up for the day - so smiley and that's when you're most likely to get some giggles.  Craft has very good head control and still is not a huge fan of tummy time but doesn't seem to mind it as much if I prop him up on the boppy (just like big sis!) - although the past few days he seems to really have enjoyed the Bumbo (also just like big sis), even though it's a lot more work for him (and for me when it comes to getting his chunky legs out, ha!).  Craft has discovered his hands big time and ALWAYS has them in his mouth.  Sometimes it's a few fingers, sometimes it's his whole fist, and he finds his thumb quite a lot - it remains to be seen whether he'll suck his thumb like big sister.  He has started to bat at his toys - I think it is accidental, though.  I can tell that Craft recognizes faces and voices, especially mine, Dan's and Lilly's.  He will follow his big sister with his eyes wherever she goes!  He seems to enjoy watching her.  He also seems to enjoy watching himself in mirrors.  Craft still likes to chew on his tongue and sometimes appears to have full-on babble conversations, which are the second cutest only to the giggles.

Likes:  bath. sleeping. eating. piano mat. bouncy seat. being outside. bumbo. Lilly. Layla. Daddy. ceiling fans. drooling. sucking on fist/fingers/thumb. paci. chewing on his tongue. babbling/cooing. giggling. kicking legs. singing.

Dislikes:  No changes here: being cold and being tired are the biggest two.  Craft also does not always love the car seat, which can be tricky with all of the traveling we do!

What I'm Thankful For:  Play dates with the bestie.  I am not sure why we didn't implement a weekly date starting at the beginning of my leave, but I'm glad we've had one for the past two weeks and look forward to our weekly play dates.  Today was truly wonderful and I was so happy all day as a result.  The girls have SO MUCH FUN together, the boys sleep, and Steph and I get to catch up.  AND she doesn't care if we all show up in our pajamas and vice versa.

On a personal note, I'm also thankful for the end of my Mom's chemo and good results from her appointments after the fact.  She still has surgery and radiation to get through, so she's not quite done, but we're almost there and I'm so proud of her and so thankful!

What I'm Looking Forward To:  A fun weekend with family this weekend - photos to come, I'm sure!

Next Pediatrician Appointment:  Craft's 4-month appointment is on June 6 (my first week back at work, eek!).

I shall leave you with a few random photos in addition to a few bajillion from Craft's 3-month shoot this morning.  I can't get enough of his little Michelin-man-physique and all of his expressions.  I know he's mine but I swear I could eat him up!

Stay tuned, lots of exciting stuff coming up!
