17 Weeks

Wellllll I am, at last, caught up with my weekly updates...I am 17 weeks today.  Time, she is a-flyin'.  I have a ton to do tonight to get ready for Lilly's first day of (2-year old) preschool tomorrow (sniffle, sniffle), so I'll get straight to the update.

Size of Baby B 2.0:  This week, baby weighs around 5 oz, about as much as a turnip:

Development-wise, baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone.  He/she is about 5 inches long from head to bottom, can move his/her joints, and is developing sweat glands (hopefully he/she will not inherit Momma's sweat glands, as I feel like mine are on overdrive all the time!).  Here's what he/she looks like in utero:
Still feeling like that pic is kind of graphic.  Should I leave it out from now on?  Possibly.

Weight Gain So Far:  Per my home scale, still hovering somewhere between 3-4 lbs.  Not sure how, exactly, because I feel like this past week I've been ravenous, but I'll take it.

Cravings:  As I mentioned above, over the past week I've felt like I could literally eat anything - nothing too specific, although much like my last pregnancy I'll never turn down pizza.  I have noticed that when I do get cravings, they're very specific.  For example, tonight I was telling Stephanie about a new recipe I tried when all of a sudden I felt like I HAD to have one of my Mom's sloppy joes.  Random.  And my mouth is still watering at the thought.

Aversions:  Still nonexistent.  Yay!

Symptoms:  Dan picked up some psylium husks for me last week at the store since I can't stand drinking Metamucil daily (or at all), and so far that seems to be battling my constipation issues pretty well (sorry)...unless I take the pre natal (sigh).  I have had several suggestions to try a gummy vitamin instead of the regular ones, so I'll try to pick one up this week and report back.  Other than that, just exhaustion per the usual.

Movement:  Nothing to note in the past week, maybe one or two flutters.  I'm ready for this baby to MOVE so I can feel him/her!  I remember missing that part of pregnancy right after Lilly was born.

What I Miss:  This week, Diet Coke again.  Momma is struggling.

Signs of a Bump:  Still growing!

And in keeping consistent/for comparison's sake, here was Lilly at 17 weeks:

What I'm Thankful For:  Family.  As I mentioned in yesterday's post, we spent the weekend with all kinds of family and welcomed a new baby cousin, and I'm just feeling happy about it.  Also, football season.

What I'm Looking Forward To:  Move in day (see above)!  Also several upcoming trips that we have planned as a family.  And fall.  It doesn't feel quite like fall yet here in NC, but I'm ready for slightly cooler weather, fall food, trips to the mountains (and move in day at my parents' mountain house!), and of course all of the Holidays and fun activities for Lilly!

Next Doctor Appointment:  Gender ultrasound next week, September 9.  I have now narrowed it down to two different ideas of how to include Lilly in the big reveal, but I'll leave that as a surprise (if I can ever make a decision)!

I have to finish packing Lilly's bag for tomorrow and iron, so that's all for tonight.  Tomorrow is hump day, hooray!

  1. Baby B2.0 seems to be a lot lower than Lilly was at 17 weeks...maybe that means it's a boy!! How exciting for you.
