Lilly Says

Two of L's favorite phrases these days are "NOW!!!" and "GIVE ME THAT!"  We are working on manners, but I am going to have to try to get a video of her saying these two things because she says them like such a grown-up, I have to work really hard to ask her to say "please" and "thank you" instead of laughing.  Two examples of this in the past few days:

  1. Two nights ago we put Lilly to bed, and she must have been extra wound up that evening because she was having a really hard time settling down.  She was ALL OVER the crib - practicing her gymnastics flips, jumping, running around the perimeter - and at one point, I panicked because I honestly thought she had figured out how to get out.  Luckily she couldn't quite get her leg over (thank the Lord), so we're safe for now.  Anyway I guess she decided she wanted some company, because after about 30 minutes of that she plopped down and started yelling, "Mommy!  Come here!  NOW!  Daddy!  NOW!  Mommy?  Daddy?  Dan?  DAN!  NNNOOOOWWW!!!!!"  Stinker.  She has said this in other instances as well, and I normally just tell her that she is not allowed to say "now" to Mommy and Daddy and that it's not very polite.  It's hard to explain to a 2-year-old, though, why Mommy can say "Lillian Grace, come here right now" but she can't repeat it back to me!
  2. Last night we had gymnastics and once again I did not meal plan for this week (One of my resolutions is to work on that, maybe it will be easier when I'm on maternity leave?!), so we swung by ChickFilA for some nuggets for dinner.  We don't eat a ton of fast food, and normally L only gets CFA when we're on a road trip, so she was excited.  Imagine my excitement when I heard Dan ask if they still had peppermint shakes and they said yes?!?!?!  Of course we got one to share, and I think I may have found the only person who loves the shakes more than I do: Lilly.  Dan and I didn't think we were going to get any because we gave her the first sip and she went to town!  When she finally came up for air, Dan told her that we were sharing the milkshake and it was Daddy and Mommy's turn to have a sip.  He took a sip and then passed me the milkshake.  I had no sooner put it to my lips when Lilly put her little hands out and I heard this little voice say, "Mommy, give me that milkshake."  It sounded so adult!  I said, "Lillian, remember what we talked about?  We have to use our manners when we want something.  What do we say?"  And she said, "Milkshake please, Mommy!"  So I said, "It's Mommy's turn right now, and when I'm done you may have a sip."  She was quiet for maybe half a second and then said, "MOMMY, GIVE ME THAT MILKSHAKE RIGHT NOW!"  I can't make this stuff up.  My almost-2-year-old is trapped in a 12-year-old's body and she is using my own words against me!  Isn't it a little early for this?!?!?!
One other thing happening currently that I'm proud of but also kind of sad about is that Lilly has started talking in the first person on a regular basis.  Instead of, "Mommy, Lilly do a flip" she'll say, "Mommy, Imma do a flip."  Yes, she says "Imma" instead of "I'm going to," and it's hilarious.  Cognitively, this is a pretty big development.  As her mama, I kind of hate it, because she's growing up SO fast and the third person is so cute.  :-)

My big girl.  I fear I will never again get a normal smile - only her "cheeeeeeeeeeeeese" smile.  She's a nut!
I realize that I failed at writing my remaining Christmas post last night - sorry not sorry.  Today is house cleaning day and by the time we got home from gymnastics, got Lilly to bed and picked up a bit I decided that catching up on Parenthood in bed sounded way better than blogging.  :-)  Maybe I'll get to it this weekend.

Hooray for Fridays!

  2. Oh, you better hold on tight… the next phase is "Why?" It's exhausting.

PS. I totally struggle with laughing when I should be reprimanding too :) They are just hilarious though when they are trying to be serious
