False Alarm

Today, we had the most epic of all false alarms.  Dan's work was giving us a baby shower this afternoon, and I was about to hop in the shower to get ready when I saw that I had a voicemail from the doctor's office.  I listened to the following message, which was left around 1:30 pm:

"Hey Sarah, this is Dr. R.  Could you call me back when you get this please?  The number is (XXX)XXX-XXXX.  Thanks."

So, of course, I enter into an absolute panic.  Why?  Because the doctor never calls.  Literally, never.  It's always the nurses.  ALWAYS.  Even bad test results have always been delivered by the nurse.  I did have some blood work done yesterday, so I immediately assumed that something came back weird with the blood work and they were calling to say, "let's have a baby."

I called back, less than 5 minutes after I got the message, and they sent me to Dr. R's nurse line, where I left a message.  I decided to go ahead and get ready and go to the shower unless I heard otherwise.  Good thing I did, because at 3:00 when the shower started I still hadn't heard back.  The thing is, I know they listened to the message...they check that line approximately every 5 minutes.  I've heard it.  So the fact that they still didn't call back put me into even more of a panic, because I knew it meant they were waiting on the doctor to call back.

4:00 pm rolls around, the shower is over, and I still haven't heard a word.  Dan and I decided that on our way home I'd call again, because I was driving us both crazy.  Turns out I didn't have to, because right as he was loading the car with all of our lovely gifts, the phone rang - doctor's office.  It was the nurse, calling to tell me that my test results from yesterday are fine.  ARE. YOU. KIDDING.  ME.  Don't get me wrong, I am glad they are fine, and even more glad that nothing is wrong.  But seriously, they ought to know better than to do that to a 9-months-pregnant woman!  I said to the nurse, "Oh that's great news, and such a relief.  When the doctor called earlier, I got so nervous because she never calls herself."  To which she replied, "Oh, it wasn't the doctor, it was a nurse."  I am telling you that the woman on the voicemail said she was Dr. R.  I know this because I went back and listened to the voicemail again to make sure I'm not crazy.  Turns out I'm not.  She may have meant to say, "This is Dr. R.'s office," but that is decidedly NOT what she said.  SIGH.

So, everything is fine, and no they were not calling to tell me to bring my stuff to my appointment tomorrow because we're going to have a baby.  So yet again, I don't know whether to be relieved or disappointed.  All of this jerking me around is driving me crazy!

On a happier note, the shower that Dan's work gave us was absolutely lovely.  They were so generous with their gifts - we got several things that we really needed and are very excited about.  AND they had this delicious cake made:

Hope everyone has had a wonderful Tuesday!

Sarah
